About Practical Perspectivism

Practical Perspectivism is an applied philosophy developed by Dr. Jeffrey Zahn as a means to explain his approach to living a happier life.  To engage Practical Perspectivism (PP) in your life as a tool to find and maintain happiness, it is helpful to recognize ten basic precepts. They are presented here in one version of a logical order, that is to say this list starts with addressing choice before happiness, since accepting that we can choose how we feel comes before choosing happiness per se, but in reality these are tenets rather than steps. All of the precepts are in play simultaneously for the Perspectivist.

THE TEN PRECEPTS OF PRACTICAL PERSPECTIVISM

1. You must accept that you choose to do everysingle thing you do.

2. You must realize at every moment, in everysituation, you choose your perspective.

3. No one perspective is more valid than any other;all claim some access to “truth”.

4. Each moment of existence can be viewed from aninfinite number of perspectives.

5. Your perspective is limited primarily by yourimagination only.

6. You are always free to choose a new perspectiveand, with that, new feelings.

7. You must want to be generally happy and at peace.

8. You must believe that you can be generally happy and at peace.

9. You must accept that it is ok to be generally happy and at peace.

10. Only you are in control of, and responsible for, your choices.
